Objective: A practice on-page SEO audit for a local dental clinic in Kerala to identify technical and strategic issues. To respect client confidentiality, the business name and URL have been anonymized.
Introduction
This audit evaluates the on-page SEO and local search strategy of a dental clinic with multiple branches across Kerala. The focus was on technical structure and how effectively the homepage targets different locations
The Findings (What I Discovered)
· Heading Structure Abuse: While the homepage does have a valid H1 tag, the heading structure is misused. The site uses multiple H2 tags for basic numerical data and stats and repeats them. Headings should be used to structure actual content, not just to make text look bigger.
· Single-Location Blindness: The clinic has branches in several cities . However, the homepage title, meta description, and content are heavily optimized only for Calicut. This means the other branches are missing out on local visibility.
· Single-Location Schema: Using SEO extensions and Google’s Rich Results Test, I verified that the site’s schema markup (Organization and LocalBusiness) is only set up for the “Calicut” branch. The social profiles linked in the schema further confirm this focus. There is no specific schema markup defining the separate addresses for the other branches.
My Recommendations (The Solution)
- Clean Up the Headings: Keep the H1, but remove the H2 tags from numbers like “5.0”. Use H2s only for real sections (e.g., “Our Services”, “Why Choose Us”).
- Create a Multi-Location Strategy: Instead of targeting only one city on the homepage, create dedicated location pages for every branch (e.g., “Dentist in kochi”).
- Implement Multi-Location Schema: Use specific Dentist schema markup for each branch’s dedicated location page, so Google knows exactly where every clinic is located.
The Takeaway
For a multi-location business, you cannot rely on a single homepage or a single schema markup to rank everywhere. You need a localized, technically sound strategy for every branch to capture local patients.
