Some agencies will call you and promise the #1 spot on Google in one week. Don’t believe them. But there are also good agencies that do honest work. The key is to know the difference.
SEO is not magic, and you don’t need to spend a lot of money. You can do the basics yourself. Here is how.
Step 1: Fix Your Google Business Profile
When people search “bakery near me,” Google Maps shows the top 3 places. To be one of them:
· Get your NAP right. Name, Address, Phone Number must be exactly the same on your website, Google profile, and Facebook page.
· List your services clearly. If you only do Local SEO, write that. Don’t just write “SEO.”
· Ask for reviews. After helping a customer, send a simple message: “Hope you liked our service. Could you leave us a Google review?” Never buy fake reviews.
Step 2: Keep Keyword Research Simple
· Think “Near Me.” People search “plumber near me” or “interior designer in Kochi.”
· Be accurate. If your info is correct, Google will match you with the right people.
· Target your towns. If you are in Thalassery, create a page saying “Serving Thalassery, Kannur, and Mahe.”
Step 3: Fix Your Website Basics
· Keep your homepage branded. Don’t put a city name in your homepage title. Your homepage should represent your whole business (e.g., “Gokul SEO Services | Kerala”).
· Create location pages. If you serve many cities, make a separate page for each one (e.g., “SEO Services in Kochi,” “SEO Services in kozhikode”). This is where you put the city name.
· Check your speed. If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, people will leave. Most people in Kerala browse on their phones.
Step 4: Watch Out for Scams
· Don’t buy backlinks. 5 real links beat 1000 fake ones.
· Be careful of “Guaranteed #1 Rankings.” Good agencies won’t promise that. They focus on real results, not false promises.
The Bottom Line
· Get your NAP right.
· List services accurately.
· Ask for reviews.
· Be patient.
